Stop oil and gas leasing on public lands in New Mexico!
The New Mexico Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is planning to auction over 10,000 acres of public lands to oil and gas drilling.
These are ancestral Indigenous lands, and the oil and gas extraction would threaten the health, safety, and well-being of Tribal, Indigenous communities, and all people in the region as well as farmlands and water too.
The public health toll of oil and gas extraction is incalculable.
We signed on to a coalition letter with over 200 organizations, small businesses, unions, farmers, faith leaders, and Indigenous groups to the New Mexico State Director of the BLM, calling for the cancellation of the May 25, 2023, online auction of over 10,000 acres of public lands for more fracking.
President Biden said he would end new oil and gas leases on public lands, and we need to make sure his administration honors that promise.
