Operations Manager

Job Description

Reporting to the Managing Director, the Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the organization and ensuring organizational strategic goals are achieved. The Operations Manager is responsible for streamlining existing processes, boosting operational efficiency, contracting and procurement, and planning and logistics.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Operational Management:
    • Working closely with the Managing Director, develop and manage processes and systems to improve internal organizational communication and coordination between staff and contractors.
    • Assist the Managing Director with streamlining service delivery across all programs. 
    • Provide leadership and direction for the overall service delivery and organizational operations.
    • Oversee policies and procedures for contractors and organizers to ensure clear communication for managing and maintaining relationships.
  • Special Projects:
    • Serve as project manager on special projects when needed, including tracking timelines, deadlines, and weekly deliverables from the project team.
    • Manages the process for planning and logistics for internal and external events. 
  • Contracting and Procurement:
    • Oversees and coordinates the organization’s procurement and contracting process, including requests for payment and vendor/consultant management.
    • Provide required documents to fiscal sponsor (AJS) for vendors and contractors to help facilitate contracts and vendor/contractor payments; track and disseminate executed contracts and agreements to applicable parties.
    • Serve as the primary liaison with the sponsor (AJS) on all contracting and procurement activities.
    • Oversees and maintains property management systems, recordkeeping systems, and organizational system subscriptions.

Requirements:

  • 8-10 years of relevant experience. 
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Skills in operations management, strategic planning, project management, and leadership.
  • Ability to work effectively with tribal and Indigenous communities.
  • Serve our communities; Indian Country wide in a mission-driven organization.
  • Ability to assess qualitative and quantitative outcome data and to provide coaching and technical assistance to staff and partner organizations.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and ability to learn from successes and failures.
  • Ability to conceptualize, lead, and execute complex projects and effectively convey their impact to various audiences.
  • Are detail-oriented and able to manage your time efficiently in remote work.
  • Strength in collaboration as part of a team to move projects forward in a fast-paced environment.
  • Outstanding research and analytical skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Outstanding partnership development skills.
  • Experience directing, motivating, developing, and supervising staff.

Qualifications:

  • Have a deep understanding of the politics and issues impacting the tribal and Native communities.
  • Strong knowledge of intertribal Native history and culture.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to progressive social change movements and grassroots organizing as the key to building political power.
  • Understand the decisive role tribal governments play in the movement for achieving sovereignty and systemic change in nation-to-nation relations with the federal government.
  • Experience in managing staff, contractors, and volunteers.
  • Can communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Familiar with work plans and able to participate in setting priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented and able to manage your time efficiently.
  • Possess solid problem-solving skills and know how to give and receive feedback well.
  • A desire to grow and develop personally and deepen our collective Indigenous frameworks. You want to learn from others in an exciting moment in Native history with an organization committed to movement-building for transformational change.

Compensation

Salary: $70,000 – $80,000

Benefits: Include health, dental, and vision insurance; paid holiday time-off, and a generous vacation and sick policy.

Location: Remote (some travel for staff gatherings, campaigns, and events or conferences)
